“Psychosocial hazards can create stress. Stress is the body’s reaction when a worker perceives the demands of their work exceed their ability or resources to cope.” – Safe Work Australia
With the release of the ‘Model Code of Practice: Managing psychosocial hazards at work’ from Safe Work Australia and the legal obligations now on employers to protect their employees, it has caught many organisations by surprise and grappling with how to tackle this in their workplace.
To help, I have evolved an existing stress-focused workplace well-being training model and am pleased to introduce it here to help organisations shift onto the front foot and take action:
Psychosocial Workplace Stress Temperature Check 🌡️
All organisations must be familiar with all their obligations under the code, however, this model captures key elements from the code using the metaphor of the collective workplace ‘Stress Temperature’ to provide a clear vision and aim, leveraging the four key hazard mitigation steps outlined in the code to help organisations shift away from high hazard risk RED zones, to GREEN zones that practice and employ psychological safety at work.
This is designed as a guide to help organisations take immediate action so please let me know if you have questions or would like to discuss how this may be adapted to assist your organisation.
Best wishes
